What is localisation?
Localisation is the adaptation of a product for a specific market. Just as a good translation should read as if it had been written in the target language, the aim of localisation is to give the idea of a product having been created for the target market.
Translation is just one of several steps in the localisation process. In addition to translation, localisation can include:
- Adjusting layout and design to fit translated text (as in the case of right-to-left languages such as Arabic or Hebrew, for example)
- Customising content to suit the tastes and traditions of other markets
